Recent figures display that autism spectrum disorder (ASD) influences at least 1 in 88 of the population, but for years, global public recognition of ASD has been limited. Over the past 5–10 years extreme efforts were made to elevate autism recognition within the standard population in nations including the UK and US. ASD is a developmental disorder that affects all people differently, in some cases autism can be severe and in other cases it can be hard to tell an autistic person from anyone else.

World Autism awareness day is on April 2nd. The organization Autism Speaks has a vision which is a world where people with autism can reach their full potential. Some people with autism lead normal lives, and live independently as adults.
